On Wednesday, May 17, 2023, a decisive operation conducted by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area‘s (HIDTA) Westside Narcotics Task Force resulted in a significant drug bust and the apprehension of two individuals. The operation, a strategic culmination of diligent investigations into a drug trafficking organization, has further disrupted illegal activities in the Austin and Waller County areas.

Following comprehensive investigation into the said organization, the Task Force Officers executed their operation in the 35000 block of Interstate 10 in Brookshire, Texas. This led to the arrest of Oswaldo Cuero Guerrero, 35, and Javari Shandale Head-Mitchell, 32, both hailing from Houston, Texas.

A substantial quantity of illicit substances and a firearm were seized in the operation. The apprehended defendants were found in possession of 361.53 grams of Methamphetamine and 87.18 grams of Fentanyl, along with a loaded handgun. This extensive haul underscores the serious nature of the drug trafficking operation that had been under investigation.

The defendants were subsequently transported and booked into the Waller County Jail. They were both charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance in connection to the large volume of drugs seized during the operation. In addition to these charges, defendant Guerrero faced an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

The operation was a collaborative effort that extended beyond the Task Force Officers. It also involved Waller County Sheriff’s Office patrol units and members of the Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT), showcasing the dedicated cooperation among law enforcement agencies in Texas to combat the menace of drug trafficking.

The Westside Narcotics Task Force is a collective unit of dedicated investigators hailing from various law enforcement agencies. The team includes members from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville PD, Sealy PD, Hempstead PD, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

This operation serves as a testament to the commitment and resilience of these law enforcement agencies in their ongoing battle against drug trafficking and related crimes.
