The Austin County Fair celebrated the service of its dedicated volunteers during the Board of Directors meeting this week. Several members were awarded pins for their years of service to the Fair.
Kathy Ignasiak, Austin County Fair President, received her 25-year Director pin and gifts. Kathy is an integral part of the Fair, serving as Chair of the Swine show, the BBQ Cook-Off, the Chili Cook-Off, and the Shrimp Boil.
Carolyn Balke received her 20-year pin and gift. She is a co-superintendent of the Austin County Fair Exposition & Convention Center building and leads the Home Economics division.
Jacob Diezi was given his 15-Year Director pin. As the Market Steer Chairman and FFA Advisor, Jacob provides valuable input to the Fair Board.
Dan Diezi received his 10-Year Director pin. He is the chairman over the Pen of Heifer contest and continues to grow this contest each year.
James Herrmann and Mike Murphey were both awarded their 5-Year Director pins. James works in the Main Beer Bar and is Vice-Chairman of the Poultry Committee, while Mike started the 1927 Club and has overseen its growth into a great addition to the concert nights.
The Austin County Fair and the Austin County Rodeo Committee each donated $1000 to the local American Cancer Society chapter, based on the number of pink ribbons handed out on Tough Enough to Wear Pink Friday. Several individuals also donated their Resale credit from the Youth Livestock Auction to the Cancer Society.
After 55 years of service on the Board of Directors, Mr. Freddie Engelbrecht retired from the Board. Freddie served as an Ag Teacher from Brazos ISD and headed up the Tractor Tech & Ag Mechanics contests and served on the Poultry and Main Parking Gate committees. He will still be serving on some committees and his dedication to the youth of Austin County and the mission of the Fair will be greatly missed.
The Austin County Fair Association would like to thank all of these volunteers for their leadership and commitment to the youth of Austin County. Their efforts have made the Fair what it is today.
