A 19 year old Austin County Teen was shot in his mother’s home early January 1, 2015. The Victim’s name was Austin Burger. He resided with his mother at 16335 Evelyn Ln. Cat Spring. At the time of the shooting Tiffany and Garen Goebel were present in the mobile home. Several statements have been released on social media sites as to what happened at the home on Evelyn Lane.
One report stated that the Goebels were leasing the house from the victim’s mother and another report stated that the Goebels were “squatting” in the home, and that Austin was coming home from being out of town for the Christmas Holidays when the incident occurred. However, there is speculation surrounding the incident because Mandy Burger, the homeowner, has been in Austin County Jail since October 2014.
According to a press release issued by Sheriff Jack Brandes, an intruder, now known as Austin Burger son of the owner of the home, entered the house at 16335 Evelyn Lane, had a confrontation with the resident and was shot. The incident occurred around 4:25 a.m. The sheriff’s office and Austin County EMS were called and Austin Berger was found dead at the scene.
“This incident is currently under investigation by the Austin County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers,” said Brandes.
Austin Burger was the son of Roy and Mandy Burger. He was a resident of Cat Spring, TX. He was born on June 5, 1995. There has been an account set up at Industry State Bank to help with funeral costs. The funeral service will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville, TX.
