A 2009 Austin County Murder will be featured on an episode of “Murder Calls” on Investigation Discovery this month. The episode entitled “Under Seige” will include a re-enactment featuring the Austin County murder of Dr. J. Mario Gonzalez.
Austin County District Attorney Travis Koehn’s Office issued a press release with all the details:
The television show “Murder Calls” on the Investigation Discovery Channel plans to air an episode at 9pm on July 19, 2018 featuring the Austin County murder of Dr. J. Mario Gonzalez.
The episode, titled “Under Siege,” includes re·enactments of the day of the crime, as well as interviews with the prosecutors and police officers who worked the case.
Dr. Gonzalez was murdered at his home near Bellville, Texas on August 22, 2009. Cristobal Galvan-Cerna, Moises Galvan-Cerna, Noel Galvan-Cerna, and Misael Santollo were arrested for the crime after an extensive Investigation and manhunt that involved the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Rangers, Bellville Police Department, Sealy Police Department, Austin Police Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety.
Austin County District Attorney Travis Koehn and Assistant District Attorney Brandy Robinson prosecuted the men alongside former Assistant Attorney General Wes Mau. Mau has since been elected as the District Attorney of Hays County.
Misael Santollo pled guilty to Murder and was sentenced to 38 years in prison. Moises Galvan-Cerna also pled guilty to Murder and received a 50 year sentence. Cristobal Galvan-Cernol and Noel Galvan-Cerna pled not guilty and chose to go to trial. Austin County juries found both men guilty of Capitol Murder, and they were sentenced to Life without Parole.
