WACO, Texas — Blinn College women’s basketball struggled offensively as the Buccaneers fell to Ranger College by the score of 62-31 Wednesday afternoon at the McLennan Community College Shootout.
“I did not have our team ready to play tonight and I take full responsibility,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. “I also give Ranger a lot of credit for their defense and effort.”
The Buccaneers fall to 7-7 overall and stay at 1-4 in Region XIV play.
Sophomore Rayanna Carter led the Buccaneers with eight points, while sophomore Kyler Wyatt followed with seven points and sophomore Jade Rochelle with six points.
Ranger shut down the Blinn offense early and built a 23-4 lead to open the first quarter. The Buccaneers played a closer game in the second quarter as Ranger only outscored Blinn by five points to put the Rangers on top 39-15 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Rangers hung onto the momentum and scored 19 points to head into the fourth quarter with a 58-27 lead. In the final quarter, the Ranger defense held Blinn to four points to take a 62-31 victory.
Blinn concluded the McLennan Community College Shootout with a 1-1 record and returns to conference play on Saturday, Jan. 6 against Paris Junior College at 2 p.m. for Blinn’s fifth straight away game.
