BRENHAM, Texas — Blinn College women’s basketball (7-8, 1-3) claimed its first conference win of the season against Coastal Bend, 87-84, in overtime on Wednesday night in the Kruse Center.
“I am happy that we found a way to win our first conference game,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.
Kristine Ezimako, Alexus Brigham, Imani Wimbish-Gay and Missy Archie led Blinn’s offense by putting up double-digit points. Ezimako scored 20 points, Brigham scored 19, Wimbish-Gay recorded 16 and Archie chipped in 10. Jordan Sanders and Mariel Wade followed with eight apiece.
Blinn held the lead through the first three quarters until Coastal Bend outscored the Buccaneers in the final quarter to tie the game, 69-69. The Buccaneers took back the momentum in overtime to score 18 points compared to 15 points put up by Coastal Bend for the win.
In the opening quarter, Blinn led 18-14 and kept a 35-31 lead at the half. Heading into the third quarter, the Buccaneers led 55-50, before Coastal Bend came back to even the score.
Blinn looks for its second conference win of the season on the road against No. 16 Tyler Junior College on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 38 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
