The Fayette County Sheriffโs Office has arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that left one man seriously injured in the Clear Lake Pines Subdivision near Winchester.
At approximately 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 6, deputies were dispatched to a residence after a homeowner reported finding a severely injured man on her front porch. Responding deputies, Wesly Arrison and Joe Gonzales, located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and covered in blood. Deputies immediately began providing medical aid while awaiting emergency medical services. The victim was transported for treatment, and his identity has not been released at this time.
An investigation by the Fayette County Sheriffโs Office Criminal Investigations Division, working in partnership with the Texas Rangers, quickly identified Norman Robert Hicks, 20, as the primary suspect. Investigators determined that Hicks also lived within the Clear Lake Pines Subdivision, just a short distance from where the incident occurred.
On Friday, November 7, investigatorsโworking with the Austin County Special Response Teamโexecuted a search warrant at Hicksโ residence, but he was not found at the property. The joint task force then proceeded to a second location in Winchester, where Hicks was located and taken into custody without incident following a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies.
Hicks is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Robbery, and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Under Texas law, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Robbery are first-degree felonies, each punishable by five to 99 years or life in prison and fines up to $10,000. Tampering with Physical Evidence is a third-degree felony, punishable by two to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines.
The Fayette County Sheriffโs Office thanked the Austin County Special Response Team and the Texas Rangers for their assistance. The investigation remains ongoing. All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
