Fire Chief S. Silver and five firefighters from the San Felipe Frydek Volunteer Fire Department attended the 44th Annual Katy Area Rescue School this past weekend. The school is geared toย advancing their skills in heavy vehicle rescue operations.ย
Heavy vehicle rescue involves specialized techniques and tools used to safely remove victims trapped in or under large vehicles such as tractor-trailers, buses, and construction equipment. Firefighters learn to stabilize vehicles, cut through heavy metal, and coordinate complex extrication operations under high-pressure, time-sensitive conditions. In a rural community these advanced skills are critical when responding to serious roadway collisions and industrial accidents.

Five members successfully completed Heavy Vehicle Rescue Level II, while Chief Silver served as an instructor alongside a team of experienced trainers from across the region. This important training, supported by Tuition Grants from the Texas A&M Forest Service, plays a vital role in enhancing firefighter education and preparedness across the state. Over several intensive days, the San Felipe Frydek Volunteer Fire Department participants dedicated their time to mastering rescue methods and refining their teamwork. The commitment of every firefighter directly strengthens the entire departmentโs ability to respond effectively to emergencies within Austin County Emergency Services District No. 1 and throughout the county.
