The Blinn College men’s soccer team recently received a 2022-23 United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award for exemplary performance in the classroom.
This is the second consecutive season Blinn has earned the award, which requires a team grade point average of 3.0 or better.?The Buccaneer men finished the 2022-23 school year with a 3.13 GPA.
Blinn was one of 319 collegiate men’s soccer programs to earn the accolade. Buccaneer men’s soccer also was named a 2022-23 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year, with David Garcia, Joshua Gutierrez, and Joseph Loughnane earning third-team All-Academic honors.
“I’m so proud that they’ve received these academic awards,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “I’m so, so proud of them for what they’ve achieved in the classroom. This is the standard they are setting. They’re getting it done on and off the field.”
The Bucs finished the year 13-7-2, setting a program record for victories in a season while winning their first postseason game in the Gulf South District Tournament.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
