Interstate 10 was brought to a standstill Tuesday Night as a tornado touched down in Sealy, TX.  Power was out for much of Sealy but, lineman are working to restore it.  The twister caused power lines to be down across I-10 blocking both sides of the interstate, bringing it to a standstill.  Austin County and Sealy Emergency responders worked tirelessly through the night.

The Sealy Police Department’s Facebook Page had the following message, images and videos with subsequent updates that are below (please scroll down):

A tornado along with severe weather has caused heavy structural and collision damage throughout the City. Interstate 10 is currently shut down at the 719 mile marker in both directions. Please remain inside and do not venture onto the roadways. Emergency command has been activated and is actively responding to calls in a priority order. ALM hardware has agreed to open for those who need supplies tonight. Special thanks already to Waller County SO and EMS crews for their quick help. We will keep everyone posted as more information becomes available

The storm took place during Sealy City Council where Sealy Police Chief Chris Noble took to the podium to inform council of the situation as he knew of it at the time:

Update 9 pm:

A substantial portion of the City is without power at this time. Especially on the southside. This includes stores, restaurants, traffic lights, etc… please remain inside

Update 10:30 pm:

Command has handled an untold number of priority calls. We are currently focusing on traffic problems and have made strides to begin the debris removal from the roadways. Please be patient. Several clean up crews can’t get to the areas due to power line issues.

 

Update 10:44 pm:

A Red Cross shelter is operational at the KC Hall located in the 1300 block of HWY 90 West for those without homes.

Update 11:30 pm:

Special High-Tension line crews are getting a police escort to the downed line on I-10. Once it is removed the roadway will be opened. We are doing our best to quickly facilitate the traffic problem. Thanks again for the patience.
