The Summer Celebration at The Gardens at Texas A&M University on June 11 will commemorate the fourth birthday of the opening of the Leach Teaching Gardens on the Texas A&M campus.
The free, family friendly event will be held from 9:30 a.m.-noon and will have something for people of all ages, including:
- Hands-on educational activities presented by Junior Master Gardener leaders.
- Story time with Chance the Librarian at the Mexican Heritage Garden.
- Lawn games: cornhole, giant Jenga and giant checkers.
- Cotton candy, snow cones, lemonade and water.
- Path to the Gardens brick donation campaign.
“We invite everyone to come enjoy The Gardens,” said Michael Arnold, Ph.D., director of The Gardens and professor in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Department of Horticultural Sciences.
Arnold said that in just four years, The Gardens has become a treasured campus landmark for our students, faculty and local community.
“It is not only a living teaching environment to educate university students, K-12 students and the public about agriculture, sustainability and nature, but also a serene green space for people to enjoy the outdoors and recharge,” he said.
The 7-acre Leach Teaching Gardens opened on June 15, 2018. The teaching gardens were Phase I of the 27-acre location for The Gardens and include 21 themed gardens, an outdoor classroom, an event lawn, a demonstration area and a pavilion.
