Tesla Inc. is expanding its Texas footprint with a major new manufacturing facility in Brookshire. Tesla plans to invest nearly $200 million in the Brookshire Battery Factory to produce large-scale battery systems known as Megapacks, which are used for grid-level energy storage. The facility, located in Empire West Business Park in Waller County, will convert more than 1 million square feet of existing industrial space into advanced manufacturing operations. Tesla is also planning an additional 600,000-square-foot building to support the project, according to filings with the county.

Waller County Commissioners approved a tax abatement agreement with Tesla on March 5. Under the 10-year deal, the company will receive up to a 60-percent property-tax reduction if it meets hiring and investment targets. The agreement takes effect Jan. 1, 2026. Tesla committed to investing at least $44 million in facility upgrades, including electrical, utility, and HVAC improvements, and about $150 million in new manufacturing equipment. The companyโ€™s total investment could exceed $200 million once construction and additional equipment purchases are completed.

Hiring for the facility has already begun, with 41 open positions listed on Teslaโ€™s website in early November. Roles include senior manufacturing engineer, technical writer, welder, and operations managers. Tesla has pledged to employ at least 375 people by the end of 2026, 750 by the end of 2027, and 1,500 by the end of 2028. According to documents filed with Waller County, more than 100 of those jobs are expected to pay over $100,000 annually, while 50 positions are projected to exceed $150,000.

The Brookshire factory will manufacture Teslaโ€™s Megapack batteries, large utility-scale units designed to store and release electricity for grid support and renewable-energy balancing. The new plant will complement Teslaโ€™s existing Megafactory in Lathrop, California, and strengthen the companyโ€™s U.S. production capacity for energy-storage systems. Production in Brookshire is expected to ramp up over several years, with full operations anticipated by late 2028. The companyโ€™s abatement agreement and hiring schedule indicate initial manufacturing activity could begin as early as mid-2026.

Local officials say the project is a major boost for Waller Countyโ€™s industrial growth, which has accelerated in recent years due to its proximity to Houston and Interstate 10. The Brookshire site will also bring new infrastructure improvements, utility upgrades, and long-term job growth to the area. Teslaโ€™s expansion into Brookshire follows similar moves across Texas, including its Gigafactory in Austin and recent investments in energy storage and vehicle production throughout the state.ย
