The United States has officially named its roster for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, sending 232 athletes to compete across all winter sports disciplines. The team is the largest Winter Olympic delegation in U.S. history, reflecting both the expansion of events and the depth of American winter sports programs.
The roster includes 117 men and 115 women, with athletes ranging in age from the mid-teens to competitors in their 50s. U.S. athletes will compete in every Olympic winter sport, including alpine, freestyle and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, bobsled, skeleton, luge, curling and biathlon.
Strong Presence of Returning Olympians
A major feature of the 2026 team is its level of experience. Of the 232 athletes selected, 98 are returning Olympians who have previously competed in at least one Winter Games.
Among them:
- Seven athletes are competing in their fourth or fifth Olympics.
- Ten are three-time Olympians.
- Twenty-two are appearing in their second Games.
The roster includes more than 30 athletes who have previously won Olympic medals, giving Team USA a veteran core across multiple sports. Several of the most recognizable names in winter sports are back for another Olympic run, including athletes in alpine skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, cross-country skiing and bobsled. Some veterans are extending already historic careers, while others are entering what could be the peak competitive years of their sport.
Mix of Experience and Newcomers
While experience is a major storyline, the roster also features a large group of first-time Olympians, accounting for more than half of the team. Many of these newcomers earned their spots through World Cup results, national championships and international rankings, signaling a generational shift in several disciplines. Younger athletes are especially prominent in freestyle skiing, snowboarding and figure skating, where progression and turnover are often rapid.
What the Roster Shows
The 2026 Winter Olympic team reflects a deliberate balance: proven competitors with Olympic success alongside emerging athletes expected to carry American winter sports into the next decade. With nearly 100 returning Olympians and a sizable number of medal winners already on the roster, Team USA will enter Milan-Cortina with both experience and competitive depth across the full slate of winter events.
The Winter Olympics open in February 2026, with competitions spread between northern Italian cities and alpine venues, marking the return of the Games to Italy for the first time since 2006.
