A Small Acreage – Big Opportunity Workshop will be held in Wharton County on Oct. 28. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event is designed for small-acreage landowners who manage for wildlife and natural resources.

The workshop will be held from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Northside Education Center, 707 Fahrenthold St.,
El Campo.

The cost is $80 and includes lunch. Preregistration is required at https://tx.ag/SmallAcreageWorkshop.

“This event is geared toward landowners managing 10-200 acres, although all landowners are welcome to attend,” said Maureen Frank, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist, Uvalde.

“We will start the day with classroom instruction and then spend the afternoon on multiple local ranches learning from landowners who are doing this type of work.”

Small acreage, big opportunity topics

Frank said the workshop is tailored to the needs of the local ecoregion. Topics will include:

  • Wildlife co-op organizations.
  • Pasture management.
  • Soil health.
  • Creating pollinator and wildlife habitats.
  • Earning 1-d-1 wildlife tax valuation.
  • Cost-share opportunities.

Contact Frank at [email protected] or 830-261-0539 for additional information. A video covering tax valuation is also available to review for participants wanting to know more about the topic, and participants will get access to other video resources.
