A suspect was apprehended in the Sealy, TX area after a recent rash of mailbox burglaries broke out. Sealy PD reported the news to the community via their Facebook Page:
Thanks to an observant citizen and diligent police work, the suspect in the recent rash of mailbox burglaries was apprehended yesterday afternoon. At approximately 2:30 pm a concerned resident observed a dark blue Dodge van parked near the community cluster mailboxes in the 300 block of Meadowlark Circle. This neighbor immediately recognized the vehicle as the suspect vehicle that had been photographed in the area days prior.
Police were notified and within minutes an undercover officer arrived on scene and observed the suspect attempting to gain entry into the mailboxes. Marked units arrived and placed the suspect into custody.
During the investigation, several pieces of mail, prescription drugs, checks and a passport, all not belonging to the suspect, were located in the vehicle along with several tools used to commit the burglaries. Also located in the vehicle was drug paraphernalia which contained 49.6 grams of liquid Methamphetamine. Investigation revealed multiple communal mailboxes throughout the Houston/Katy area were targeted by the suspect as well.
Subsequently, Pablo A. Cruz of Sealy was charged with: Unlawful Use of Criminal Instruments, Fraudulent Use/Possession Identifying Information, Forgery Financial Instrument, and Possession Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1. Further investigation is expected to result in more charges against Cruz by The US Postal Inspectors and neighboring agencies.
This case is a direct result of determined police work and community involvement by concerned citizens looking out for their neighbors. Remember; “if you see something, say something.”
