Two burglars are in jail after being spotted by an Austin County deputy sheriff last week.
Deputy Sheriff D. Duron was on patrol on January 2, 2019 when he saw a suspicious vehicle at a residence in the Oak Hill Community west of Bellville. When he approached the residence, two men ran from the area.
Bellville police officers and other deputies responded to the location to assist Deputy Duron.
Daryl Hatfield, 50, of Colorado County and Michael Galaviz, 52, of Travis County were arrested. The residence had been burglarized and items stolen from the property.
Officers seized the pickup used by the two men along with bolt cutters and other burglary tools.
Hatfield and Galaviz remain in the Austin County jail under $240,000 bond each. They are charged with Burglary of a Habitation, Burglary of a Building, and Possession of Criminal Instrument.
Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes expressed his extreme pride in Deputy Duron and his quick actions.
“Deputy Duron’s keen observations while on patrol caused two criminals to be arrested and put in jail”, Brandes said.
“The citizens of Austin County are safer due to his dedication and professionalism.”
