The teams, times, and dates are set for the upcoming Region XIV South Regional Tournament.
The ninth-ranked Blinn College baseball team will host the postseason tournament for the second consecutive season when play kicks off this week.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors (cash only). Entrance is free for children 12 years old and younger and college students with a student ID.
The Buccaneers (37-14) are the top seed in the four-team, double-elimination competition and will face fourth-seeded Panola College in the first round at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham, Texas.
The tournament’s other opening-round matchup will see second-seeded Tyler Junior College battle third-seeded Galveston College at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
Blinn and Galveston are representing the Region XIV South Zone, while Tyler and Panola are out of the North Zone.
Play will continue with a consolation matchup at 2 p.m. on Friday, as well as a winner’s bracket semifinal tilt at 6 p.m. The team that remains undefeated will have a chance to capture the regional title in the championship at 6 p.m. on Saturday; however, a loss would set up a winner-take-all ballgame on Sunday (time to be determined).
The champions of the North and South regionals will meet in a best-of-three super regional later this month, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division I College Baseball World Series.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 47 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
