ROSWELL, New Mexico- The Blinn College Buccaneers took down New Mexico Military, 27-13, on Saturday afternoon in Roswell to increase their Southwest Junior College Football Conference record to 5-1.
“I thought our defense played exceptionally well and carried the team,” said Blinn head coach Ryan Mahon. “We threw a long touchdown at the half that was a large part of our win and then our defense stripped the ball and returned it for a touchdown.”
Ryan Buckley kicked things off for the Buccaneers with a 39-yard field goal with 8:49 left in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead. Blinn extended its lead to 10-0 as tail back Carlos Grace rushed the ball in for four yards in the first quarter.
Following a New Mexico Military field goal, Devin Williams threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to Dandre Reed for Blinn to pull ahead 17-3 at the half.
The Buccaneers continued to dominate in the second half after Buckley kicked a 41-yard field goal to extend Blinn’s lead to 20-3. Ricky Thomas stripped the ball and returned it for a touchdown for the Buccaneers final points as they downed New Mexico Military, 27-13.
The Buccaneers increased their record to 6-1 overall, and will continue conference play against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 3 p.m. at Cub Stadium for Blinn’s homecoming.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
