WILLOW PARK, Texas — The No. 14 Blinn College men’s golf team placed sixth at the NJCAA District II Championship at Squaw Creek Golf Course Tuesday.
“It was a real struggle the first day with a constant 30 mile per hour wind that gusted to 40 miles per hour on a very tight course,” head coach David Johnson said. “We came back strong today with a team score of 292. Cameron Gray played well all three rounds, and John Baker competed hard all three rounds.”
Blinn placed sixth after recording team scores of 308, 310, and 292 for a three-round total of 910. No. 2 Odessa College won the tournament with a three-round total of 857.
Gray tied for ninth place after shooting a pair of 76s on the first day and a 2-under-par 69 today.
“I hit the ball extremely well from tee to green, but struggled with my putting in the first two rounds,” Gray said. “After switching, I putted a little better and shot a 2-under-par 69 in the third round to finished tied ninth overall.”
Baker placed 26th after shooting rounds of 78, 79, and 3-over-par 74, while Riley Simmons tied for 27th with scores of 80 and a pair of 77s and Hayden Roup finished 29th with scores of 82, 81, and 1-over-par 72.
Travis Edwards tied for 31st with a three-round total of 238, and Justin Dees tied for 38th with a three-round total of 246.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
