The 11th-ranked Blinn College women’s volleyball team completed its run at the Weatherford Tournament with a pair of victories Saturday in Weatherford, Texas.
The Buccaneers improved to 3-1 on the season with sweeps of Independence Community College and Dallas College North Lake.
“I think we were better today than yesterday,” Blinn head coach Terry Gamble said of his team after the Bucs went 1-1 during the tournament’s opening day. “Needless to say, we have a lot of stuff we need to work on, but today was a good day. We just need to get focused and get better on certain things.”
To begin the day, Blinn defeated Independence 25-12, 25-15, 25-13.
Freshman right-side hitter Kellen Dorotik tallied a match-high seven kills against the Pirates, followed by six kills for freshman outside hitter Lexi Higgins. Freshman setter Elizabeth Tyner dished out 29 set assists. Dorotik added a pair of service aces.
On defense, freshman libero Cierra Pesak had a team-high nine digs.
In their second match of the day, the Buccaneers blanked North Lake 25-11, 25-17, 25-14.
Sophomore middle blocker Brooke Pattschull tallied 14 kills to pace Blinn’s attack. Dorotik chipped in eight kills while Higgins and sophomore middle blocker Taylor Glendening each had seven. Tyner posted 34 set assists. At the service line, Dorotik had four aces, followed by two apiece for Pesak and freshman libero Emma Whitsel.
Blinn’s season continues with a road tilt at Temple College at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23 in Temple, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 44 NJCAA national championships since 1987.?
