LAREDO, Texas – Blinn College softball had its offense going in scoring 31 total runs in two victories over Laredo Community College by the score of 22-6 and 9-0 Sunday afternoon in Laredo.

Shop Austin County 300 x 600 Second TryThe pair of wins today coupled with the Saturday’s victories gives the Buccaneers a perfect 4-0 record on the weekend. Overall, Blinn improved to 19-12 and 4-0 in Region XIV play.

Blinn 22 – Laredo 6

At one point, Blinn was tied with Laredo 6-6 but the Buccaneers poured on the offense in the third, fourth and fifth inning to score 16 additional runs for a 22-6 victory over Laredo in five innings in the opening game.

Courtney White belted two home runs and a single and drove in four runs. Meghann Wrinkle also hit a home run as well as two doubles to drive in five runs. Nicole Garcia had a double and two singles while driving in four in the lopsided victory. Bobbi Berkey came on in relief in the second inning and pitched 3 2-3 hitless innings while striking out two.

Wrinkle got the offense started in the first inning with a one-out solo home run for the first run. Jordin Wilkins drove in a run with a double to center for the second run and then White cleared the bases with a home run to give the Buccaneers a 4-0 lead after a half inning. Laredo did get one run in the first to get within 4-1.

Ashley Langston got the second inning started for Blinn with a single and she was brought in by a double by Garcia to left for the fifth run. Wrinkle followed with a double for another run batted in for a 6-1 lead. Blinn’s lead disappeared when Laredo scored five runs to knot the game at 6-6.

The game didn’t stay tied for long as White got the third started with a single and then later scored on an RBI single to right by Langston for a 7-6 lead. Kalli Edwards and Garcia followed with back-to-back RBI singles for a 9-6 lead. Wrinkle drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Katie Andrie capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI single to left for an 11-6 lead.

The scoring continued for Blinn in the fourth inning when White started it off with a solo home run for the 12th run. Langston drove in a run with a single to right for a 13-6 lead. Langston later scored on a ground out and Edwards also came in to score for a 15-6 lead.

Blinn looked to end the game early in the fifth as Andrie started the inning with a single and then she was brought in by an RBI single by Erika Wood to left for the 16th run. Katy Sawyer and Langston followed with back-to-back RBI singles to increase the lead to 18-6. Garcia later drove in a run with a single to center and then Wrinkle drove in a pair with a double to right for a 21-6 lead. White pushed across the final run with a bases-loaded walk for a 22-6 lead that would hold up as the final score in five innings.

Blinn 9 – Laredo 0

Blinn had a consistent offensive presence and that was more than enough run support for Sam Junkin who pitched five innings of scoreless softball to help beat Laredo 9-0 in the final game of the day.

Junkin pitched all five innings and allowed only two hits while striking out three in the shutout.

Wilkins only had one hit in the game but it was a big home run as she drove in two runs in the win. Garcia hit two doubles and a single and drove in three runs while Andrie had a double and a single against Laredo.

Garcia started everything in the first for Blinn with a single and she was brought in with a single by White to center for a 1-0 lead. It was a two-out rally in the second for the Buccaneers as Edwards reached on a single and was brought in with a double by Garcia to center for a 2-0 lead.

Andrie got the offense going in the third with a leadoff double and was brought in by a single to left by Seeley Orsak for the third Blinn run. Tori Gleason pushed across a run with a bases-loaded walk for the fourth run and Edwards made the score 5-0 with a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring in the inning.

Wilkins powered the offense in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left for a 7-0 lead. Blinn looked to end the game early in the fifth when Gleason drew a one-out walk and Edwards singled to get on base and then Garcia doubled in both of them to make the score 9-0 and that end up as the final score.

Blinn will host its first home game of the season on Friday, March 11 with a double-header against Lamar State College – Port Arthur starting at 2 p.m.

This game will also be an Adam’s Angels Ministry fundraiser game in which Blinn raises money and awareness for Adam’s Angels. Adam’s Angels Ministry is called to provide care and comfort for families that are in a battle against childhood cancer. The fundraising effort is part of Blinn’s annual Adopt-a-Charity program in which all Blinn athletic programs dedicate a portion of their gate proceeds towards a charity.
