WACO, Texas – Trailing by five runs after the seventh inning, Blinn College baseball was able to score six runs in the final two innings to comeback for a 10-9 victory over No. 7 McLennan Community College Monday afternoon in Waco.
The come from behind victory helps the Buccaneers improve their overall record to 11-9 while the Region XIV record remains at 3-5.
Walker Winders had a double and a single while driving in three runs. Tanner Holly drove in a pair of runs in the ninth inning to tie the game. The Buccaneers hit three solo home runs and those were hit by Angel De La Fuente, Colton Parrish and Patrick King. Chris Falgout came on in the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings to get the win in relief.
McLennan started fast in the first inning with four runs to take a 4-0 lead. De La Fuente would chip into that lead in the second with a solo home run to get Blinn within 4-1. Parrish hit a solo shot of his own to lead off the third to get within 4-2. Another solo home run hit by King in the fifth helped the Buccaneers get within one at 4-3. McLennan did get one back in the fifth to increase its lead to 5-3.
George Pappas led off the seventh with a double and was brought in by an RBI single to center by Elijah MacNamee to get Blinn within 5-4. McLennan put up four runs in the seventh to take a commanding 9-4 lead after seven.
Blinn was able to chip away in the eighth when Hillin Warren and Sam McElreath both singled and Winders brought both in with a double to center to get within 9-6. Pappas brought in a run with a ground out to get the Buccaneers within two runs in the eighth.
The eighth helped Blinn get within striking distance in the ninth when a single by King, Warren reaching on an error and McElreath got on after getting by a pitch to load the bases. Holly tied the game with a two-run single to center. Winders followed with a go-ahead single to center to give the Buccaneers a 10-9 lead that would end up as the final score.
Blinn will get back into conference play on Thursday, March 10 with a double-header with Wharton County Junior College starting at 4 p.m.
