The Blinn College men’s soccer team opened its 2021 season Thursday night with an 11-0 win over Crush Soccer Club.
Blinn scored five goals in the first half and six in the second as it cruised to the easy win on Rankin Field at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
Head coach Michael McBride said the Buccaneers were primed for their season opener.
“It was nice for the boys to actually play somebody other than themselves,” McBride said. “They’ve been beating each other up for the last three weeks in preseason practice. They got to release some of their energy.”
McBride said Blinn’s scoring “was pretty much across the board” as the Buccaneers controlled the game from the start, eventually emptying its bench.
“It was a game where nobody got injured and everybody got to play, so that was good,” McBride said, “and we learned a little bit about our team tonight as we start the season.”
Blinn will host Fever United Soccer Club on Saturday at Rankin Field. The game will begin at 7 p.m. The Bucs will open conference play Saturday, Aug. 31, on the road against Northeast Texas Community College. That game is at 4 p.m.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987. For more information, visit www.buccaneersports.com.
