BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball played loose and above the rim in a 96-64 victory over Lone Star College-Tomball Wednesday night inside the P.E. Building.
The Buccaneers had 10 different players score to win their second game in a row. Blinn improved to 11-5 with the win and stay at 2-4 in Region XIV play.
“I am happy for our guys and everybody got to play,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “All of our players have earned playing time in practice.”
Kobe Wrice scored 22 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the way for the Buccaneers. Antione Lister scored 17, Jarius Kesee finished with 13 and Tyrus Grayson also reached double figures with 10.
“It was pretty fun out there because I just let the game come to me,” Wrice said. “These games build chemistry and help us work the ball around on offense.”
James Harrison and Frederick Tottenham each scored eight in the victory.
“Coach just wanted to push the ball and get some fast breaks on offense,” Tottenham said.
Blinn started fast and shot out to a 16-6 lead after a dunk by LaKendric Hyson with 10:08 left. The momentum stayed with the Buccaneers as Lister scored 13 points in the opening half while Harrison added eight points. Blinn cruised to a 41-24 lead at the half.
Blinn kept it rolling in the second half by scoring the first six points. Wrice hammered home a dunk with 11:17 left for a 62-39 lead. Wrice continued his play above the rim and added some outside shots as he scored 22 points in the second half. Tyrus Grayson added eight points in the half as Blinn coasted to a 96-64 victory over Tomball.
The road ahead will get significantly tougher as Blinn will host No. 5 San Jacinto College-Central on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. San Jacinto is a perfect 7-0 in Region XIV play through seven games.
