LUFKIN, Texas — Blinn College men’s basketball outscored Angelina College by 13 points in the second half to seal an 80-72 victory on Saturday night in Lufkin.
“Our guys played very well and withstood Angelina’s runs,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “They stuck together and were able to pull out a victory on the road, so it was a big win for our guys.”
Tony Lewis led the Buccaneers on both offense and defense. He scored a season-high 24 points, while recoding eight rebounds. Antione Lister was next with 17 points, while Markques Houston scored 13 and Tyrus Grayson chipped in 12. Curtlon Wesley followed on defense with six rebounds, while Anthony Rice led Blinn with eight assists.
Blinn and Angelina played a close first half, but it was Angelina that pulled ahead 43-38 at the half. The momentum shifted in the second half as the Buccaneers fought back to outscore Angelina 42 to 29 for the win.
With the win, Blinn’s overall record improves to 18-10 and Region XIV record increases to 8-9.
Blinn will return to the Kruse Center for its final home game of the season against Jacksonville College at 7:30 p.m. The women’s basketball team will take the court prior to the men’s game to take on Jacksonville College at 5:30 p.m. Both games will feature sophomore night and student appreciation night.
