BOSSIER CITY, La. – Blinn College women’s basketball had the 3-point shots dropping early on and that was enough to beat Bossier Parish Community College 80-63 Saturday afternoon.

The Buccaneers outscored Bossier Parish 50-23 in the first half. Blinn got a little sloppy in the second half but was able to hold on to open conference play with a victory and improve its record to 6-1.

Blinn again took advantage of a zone defense, as Ebony Parker was able to nail six shots from behind the arc to lead with 27 points. Jeliah Preston did a lot of her work in the opening quarter, scoring 16 of her 19 points in the first 10 minutes, including four 3-pointers.

Gaining more confidence in her shot, Bryanna Taylor hit three 3-pointers to end with 11 points while Penina Faumui had eight and Ekiya Gray had seven.

Preston was hitting just about everything in the opening quarter, scoring 16 of Blinn’s 25 points as the Buccaneers jumped to a 25-10 lead after one. That lead just expanded in the second quarter as the Buccaneers ballooned the lead to 50-23 at the break.
