Hot shooting from the 3-point line proved to be the difference Saturday as the Blinn College men’s basketball team fell to 19th-ranked Panola College 95-82 in a Region XIV contest in Carthage, Texas.
“We competed and we played hard the entire game,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “Panola just got going from long distance and that allowed them to pull away.”
The Buccaneers (11-5 overall, 3-3 Region XIV) converted just four shots from the arc, while the Ponies knocked down 14.
Panola led 55-45 at halftime.
Offensively, Blinn was led by sophomore guard Masiah Gilyard’s 25-point outing. Freshman Anthony Isaac had a big game as he registered a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore forward Jamine Charles and sophomore guard Jadin Johnson chipped in 13 and 10 points, respectively.
The Bucs resume their season at home against Paris Junior College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 45 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
