The Blinn College men’s soccer team powered past Rise SC for a 6-0 home victory Tuesday at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.
Freshmen Ethan Lindo (forward) and Charlie Goldsmith (midfielder) scored two goals apiece and fellow freshman midfielders Joe Coyle and Cristian Estrada also got in on the action as the Buccaneers improved to 2-1-2 on the season.
“It was a good run out for the squad tonight,” Blinn head coach Michael McBride said. “We’ve had three weeks to evaluate our entire team and now it’s all about getting results.”
The Bucs dropped their season opener to top-ranked Eastern Florida State College but have since earned at least one point in each of their past four matches.
That trend continued against Rise as Blinn got going in the 20th minute of play and rolled from there.
Coyle opened the scoring thanks to assists from sophomore forward Na’el Shalabi and freshman midfielder Geoff Ojango. Two quick goals from Lindo (assisted by Estrada and freshman defender Astin Brace in the 39th minute) and Estrada (assisted by Lindo in the 44th) gave the hosts a 3-0 cushion just ahead of halftime.
Lindo struck again right at the 57-minute mark with the help of sophomore midfielder Mathew Williams and freshman defender Alex Munroe.
Lindo is now tied for the NJCAA Division I lead in goals scored with six. He has scored in three consecutive matches.
Goldsmith found the back of the net in the 64th minute with the help of Ojango and Shalabi. Goldsmith closed out the scoring in the 75th on a give from freshman midfielder Joaquin Rosales.
Blinn out-shot Rise 20-6.
Freshman goalkeeper Connor Vela had three saves for the Bucs.
Blinn gets back to work with the start of Region XIV play at Northeast Texas Community College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, in Mount Pleasant, Texas.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 49 national championships since 1987
