“Learn to Bird” will be presented Sept. 14-16 in Fort Bend County. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service event is designed for those new to birding and beginners looking to improve their skills.

The program features focused birding trips led by professional guide Bryan Calk and educational presentations by AgriLife Extension faculty.

Cost is $450. Space is limited as the event is capped at 13 participants. Register at http://tx.ag/LearntoBird. Participants may cancel before Aug. 31 and receive a refund, minus a $50 processing fee. There is no refund on or after that date.

Birders will meet at 5 p.m. on Sept. 14 at 2335 Richmond Parkway, Richmond. The event will conclude at 5 p.m. on Sept. 16.

“We are so excited to be able to offer this course to those starting out or interested in birding,” said Emily Grant, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent event co-coordinator, Gillespie County. “The location is truly ideal and the opportunity to be out in nature learning about birds with fellow enthusiasts will be something that should make lifelong memories for our participants.”

Texas Master Naturalists may be eligible for advanced training hours and should contact their local chapter.

Program inclusions

The program will include the following:

  • Professional birding guides.
  • All course materials.
  • Transportation to birding locations.
  • Property access fees.
  • All meals during the event.

Long Acres Ranch

The birding will take place inside Long Acres Ranch, a privately owned venue spanning 768 acres in Fort Bend County, which includes 2.5 miles of undeveloped land along the Brazos River.

“We are so fortunate to have access to this beautiful place,” Grant said. “With that much acreage and undeveloped land along the Brazos River, I really think our beginning birders will be amazed at what we may be lucky enough to see on our guided tours there.”

Participants who need lodging should look in the Richmond and Rosenberg areas, she said.
