The Lady Knights took a break from district play this past week for a competitive match against 3A school Temple Christian on Monday night. Since Temple Christian was a more competitive team than the other teams in their district, the Lady Knights used this game as a warm-up match for the kind of competition they would meet in the playoffs. The team also used this opportunity to get more comfortable with the new rotation as junior Hannah Taake is out with an injury. The Lady Knights went into the game with nothing to lose and everything to gain from a good competitive match, but from the beginning struggled to pass the ball well.
“We struggled with our serve receive the entire match, partially due to the fact that we have different players in different positions. It’s hard when you’ve passed next to the same person the whole season to have someone new play next to you. They definitely picked apart our serve receive which has given us something to focus on in practice this week,” remarked Coach Dawson.
The Lady Knights also struggled with hitting and setting errors during the game. “All in all, not our best performance, but the match definitely shed light on what we need to be working on to prepare for the playoffs,” said Coach Dawson. Senior Julia Catlett was the team’s top server going 10 for 10 with freshman Regan Woodley right before her going 8 for 8. Marissa Przyborski was the team’s top passer with a passing average of 2.3. Setter Lacy Phillips ended the game with 12 set assists. The Lady Knights will finish off their district play with three more games this week, traveling to Conroe to face Lifestyle Christian on Monday night. Tuesday night the Lady Knights host Calvary Baptist for their parent’s night and also host Covenant Academy on Thursday night for their last district match.
