WELDER HELPER
Monday - Friday, occasional Saturdays as needed
7:00 am - until job is finished
$21.14 per hour
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Operate various types of welding processes. (Corewire, CO2, MIG, Stick, and Air Arc cutting torch gouger. T
• Will run the drill press machine when necessary
• Read and interpret blueprints to understand work specifications
• Use basic setup equipment such as levels, tapes, fillet gauges, and inclinometers.
• Keep track of materials, tools and equipment needed for welding projects and inform supervisor in case of shortage
• Fuse (weld) metal structural components together by means of MIG/arc welding using one or more processes in the fabrication of work tables, stands and other structures.
• Run drill press to drill and tap as required
• Weld a prefabricated ring to a pre-cut hot roll rod making a pipe ring; weld a hot roll rod to the structure rings to help reinforce the structure of the steel cage.
• Perform welding operations requiring most of the following: planning and layout work from blueprints and drawings of other specifications and determine operation sequences.
• Perform general fab shop duties, grind steel, drill/tap holes, drive forklift, keep shop and work area clean, and load trucks
• Receive cross training and will be expected to work in any part of the plant as required by management
• Perform some welding on objects involving moderate safety and load requirements working in one position.
• Participate in department safety, demonstrate excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont Safety policies and procedures.
• Proficiently read the pipe sheet ; safely weld on the production floor while following all safety procedures; weld inside the steel cage without nicking or burning a strand.
• Must be able to move pole shafts using an overhead crane gathering of parts and materials to complete the project.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• The ability to pass a forklift driver’s test
• Ability to read and interpret production drawings, specifications and codes.
• One year of previous experience welding in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
• Be able to demonstrates good safety practices; perform monthly safety audits; general housekeeping; use of basic hand tools; Reading Tape Measure; able to Identify and maintain equipment; minimum basic welding practices. Understand different materials; Mig, Tig, & Stick Abilities; read blueprints; train others in department; demonstrates the willingness to cross-train in other areas; proficiently read the engineered drawing.
• The ability to accurately use and read a tape measure, thread gauges, micrometer, protractor, and dial calipers.
• Ability to read write and perform basic math functions such as adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with average lift at 10 lbs.
• Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
• HS Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Experience with or knowledgeable of pole production process
• Knowledge of the technological instructions for the production of poles
• Ability to prioritize work in order to complete deadlines in a high volume, fast paced environment
