Description
Support students with disabilities at Brenham High School as a Life Skills Paraprofessional. Working under the classroom teacher’s direction, you’ll help implement instruction tailored to students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
What you'll do
- Assist with planning, developing, and implementing instructional, behavioral, and therapeutic activities under the classroom teacher’s direction.
- Provide personal care, including diapering, medical care, and feeding, as stated in each student’s IEP.
- Assist students with physical disabilities, including wheelchair transfers, lifting, positioning, and use of adaptive equipment.
- Provide behavior support, follow behavior intervention plans, and maintain control of students assigned to your care.
- Maintain student and classroom records, complete requested reports promptly, and protect confidential information.
What you'll bring
- High school diploma or GED and a valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate required.
- Applicants recommended for hire with fewer than 48 college hours must pass a reading, writing, and mathematics paraprofessional assessment.
- Demonstrate organization, effective communication, basic technology skills, and flexibility when working with diverse students and staff.
- Ability to provide positive behavior support, maintain cooperative relationships, and uphold professional and ethical standards.
- Willingness to train in Crisis Prevention Intervention Strategies and maintain emotional control under stress.
- Meet physical demands including frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and occasional lifting and carrying of 45 pounds or more.
- Work involves physical restraint, possible biological exposure, occasional districtwide travel, and frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
