Summary Responsible for evaluating, repairing and maintaining electrical needs and problems for new and existing city facilities; assists with electric systems at city parks, including sport lighting on all playing fields; prepares electric services for special events; conducts preventative electrical maintenance throughout city departments; assists electric department during large power outages and various electric system components; repairs and maintains street lighting throughout the city; performs general maintenance duties and operates and maintains various equipment. This is an hourly, non-exempt position and starting pay is $19.21 per hour (pay grade 20). Well qualified applicants may be eligible for a higher starting rate. A valid Texas commercial driver's license (B CDL) is required. Employees who do not have a Class B CDL (Commercial) Texas driver's license must successfully obtain this license within 180 days of hire. The City of Brenham offers an in-house training program to obtain this license. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Performs general troubleshooting of electrical systems, including inspecting, noting deficiencies, and correcting deficiencies in various electrical systems of new and existing city infrastructure; • Prepares electrical systems for temporary special events; • Works with Public Utilities department to hang community banners and flags; • Repairs and maintains street lighting; • Completes work orders and related reports, including recording materials used and time spent on repairs/projects; • Responsible for the appropriate supply of materials and equipment, including preparing purchase requests and orders, calling vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and maintaining inventory and stock room; • Reads and interprets complex blueprints, piping, schematics and written instructions; • Repairs, replaces, and maintains all city owned lighting, including holiday lights; • Assists with city park electric systems and equipment; • Assists with general setup for special events; • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical tools and equipment required for maintenance work while utilizing necessary PPE to complete tasks; • Performs routine maintenance and repair of city facilities to ensure upkeep and safety; including general carpentry, soldering, pipefitting, welding, fabrication, electrical, painting, plumbing, heating/air conditioning, and other mechanical repair work; • Operates various equipment, including aerial bucket and truck, backhoe, and safety belt and equipment; and • Assists electric department during large power outages as needed, and maintenance department, including general building structure, electric, and plumbing systems as needed.
