JOB REQUIREMENTS: Public Works Director will report to the City Manager and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Public Works in a General Law Type A city with a population of over 3400. The director will be administratively responsible for employee development, training, safety education and documentation. The director will also counsel employees and work through disciplinary issues in compliance with City personnel rules and regulations and State and Federal law. Director will be subject to responding to emergencies during off-duty hours and attending City Council meetings after working hours. May work extensive hours and must respond to emergency callback, as required.
Some areas of responsibility are: Prepares and prioritizes list of infrastructure repair/replacement needs, maintenance of water wells, water systems and lines, wastewater system and lines, monitors solid waste collection service, roads and streets, parks, swimming pool, airport grounds, street and traffic signs, utility vehicles, heavy equipment, city-owned buildings and facilities, prepares and files all regulatory reports, ensuring reporting deadlines are adhered to and division activities comply with established rules and regulations, and other duties as assigned by the City Manager. The director also assists with the preparation of and maintains the department budget and the purchase and inventory of all parts and supplies.
