Description

The City of Sealy is seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of a full-time Building Official in the Planning & Community Development Department. Under the general direction of the Planning Director, the Building Official manages the building inspection, code enforcement, and permitting staff and operations; oversees the inspections of new and existing buildings and structures; assists in the review of building plans and specifications, and assures the effective enforcement of building and safety codes, laws, regulations, and standards. As the City’s designated Code Enforcement Officer Supervisor, this position directs and supervises all Code Enforcement activities and staff. Work requires possession of a High School Diploma (or GED), and a minimum of at least five (5) years of responsible construction and/or building inspection experience working with residential and commercial buildings, which includes at least three (3) years of progressively responsible building inspection experience at the foreman or supervisor level, or closely related experience, preferably in local government; or any equivalent combination of education and experience and the following:

• Valid Texas Class “C” Driver’s License
• Texas State Code Enforcement Officer license required
• CABO/ICC Building Official Certification preferred
• ICC Mechanical and Electrical Certifications preferred
• State Plumbing Inspector License required
• Any specialized certifications relative to the assigned responsibilities

This is an exempt position; hourly salary range is $27.27 - $37.77. Applicants interested in this position must submit a completed application to the Human Resources Office. EOE.
