PRESS RELEASE
On Thursday, August 23rd at approx. 5:45 PM, several Deputies with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Hwy 60 just south of Wallis near the Wharton County line, in an attempt to locate a vehicle that had been involved in a pursuit. ACSO Deputies were notified that a blue in color Chevrolet Camaro had fled from a Texas DPS State Trooper in Fort Bend County. Wharton County Pct 2 Constables Office advised that they had spotted the vehicle travel into Austin County, but had lost sight. A short time after being given a description of the suspect vehicle, an ACSO Deputy observed the suspect vehicle traveling on Hwy 36 near Tomlinson Road.
 
 
When the ACSO Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the vehicle fled and refused to stop for law enforcement. The pursuit ended with the suspect exiting his vehicle and fleeing on foot in the 1300 Blk of Klopsteck Road. On scene units set up a perimeter, K9 and drone units were called to the area to assist with the search of the suspect. Bellville PD K9 “Maggie” arrived on scene and deployed in an attempt to track and locate the suspect. Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes responded in his aircraft to conduct a search of the area. The suspect was spotted from the air and ground running into a wooded area in the 4900 blk of Hwy 36 South. At this time, several members of the Austin County Regional Special Response Team including K9 “Knox” entered the wooded area where in . SRT and K9 “Knox” located and arrested the suspect without incident.
 
 
The suspect was identified as Javier Garcia (27) of Edinburg, Texas. The suspect was turned over to DPS, who transported and booked the Garcia into the Ft. Bend County Jail.
