BRENHAM, Texas – Galveston College was able to take advantage of timely hitting in both games to beat Blinn College in a double-header by the score 9-1 and 15-4 March 27 at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham.

The pair of losses drops the Blinn conference record to 8-12 and the Buccaneers are now 17-13 overall. Blinn now has a losing streak of four games that they will be looking to break in the next pair of games.

Galveston was able to pull away late in the first game as it broke open a 1-1 tie with three in the fifth and five in the seventh for the 9-1 victory. Walker Winders drove in the lone run for Blinn with an RBI single in the second inning while the Buccaneers could only muster four hits against Galveston in the opener.

Blinn actually held a lead after getting going in the second inning. Jager Toffan singled to begin the inning and then was able to score on a single by Winders up the middle for a 1-0 lead. That lead was short lived as Galveston tied it up at 1-1 with a single run in the third.

Galveston broke the game open in the fifth with three runs and then put on insurance runs with five in the seventh to close out the first game with a 9-1 victory.

Galveston again used late scoring to pull away from Blinn in the second game to come away with a 15-4 victory to sweep the games in Brenham. Winders had the hot bat for Blinn with a pair of hits and an RBI. Hunter Lehman, Toffan and Ben Upton each knocked in a run for the Buccaneers in the loss.

Galveston scored a single run in the top of the first inning but Blinn came right back in the bottom half. The Buccaneers loaded the bases when Cullen Jozwiak and Patrick King singled and Robbie Rojas was hit by a pitch.

Jozwiak was able to tie the game after scoring on an error and then Toffan followed with a sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead. Winders drove in the third run with a single to right and then Upton made the score 4-1 with an RBI single to center to cap the scoring.

Unfortunately for Blinn, that would be the final runs scored in the game as Galveston went on to score the following 14 runs to put the game away.

Blinn will get two more shots at Galveston on the road March 28 for a double-header that begins at 1 p.m.
