Dr. Henry Boehm Jr. compiled an impressive list of accomplishments and honors during a lifetime spent supporting the Blinn College District. His widow, Theodora “Teddy” Boehm, says she is certain a new Blinn College endowed scholarship in Boehm’s honor would be among his favorites.

Mrs. Boehm has donated $25,000 to the Blinn College Foundation for an endowed scholarship for a Blinn student planning a career in the medical field.

“I think he would have appreciated it,” she said. “He was very encouraging to students and was a strong believer in education. I’m happy students will benefit from this over the years.”

Henry Boehm Jr.’s ties to Blinn ran deep. He graduated from Blinn in 1957 as class valedictorian, and his father, Henry Boehm Sr., was the longtime Dean of the college.

Henry Boehm Jr. also served 34 years on the Blinn College Board of Trustees. Teddy Boehm was appointed to fill her husband’s place on the board after he stepped down in 2013.

“The Boehm family has been longtime supporters of Blinn College,” said Sam Sommer, Chairman of the Blinn Foundation Board of Directors. “This endowed scholarship is another example of the importance they place on education.

“Endowed scholarships like the one funded by Mrs. Boehm can make all the difference in the world to a student who might not otherwise be able to attend Blinn. We thank her for her generous gift.”

Henry Boehm Jr. was a Brenham native who returned to practice medicine after graduating with honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and completing a residency at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin.

He also served 14 years on the faculty of the Texas A&M Medical School as a professor in its Family Medicine Registry Program, teaching young physicians.

Henry Boehm Jr. in 1995 was named “Washington County Man of the Year” by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce.

The Foundation manages more than 200 endowed scholarships. It is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and has set a goal of 30 new endowed scholarships in recognition of its three decades of service to Blinn.
