The Bellville Historical Society is hosting a unique field trip on Saturday, April 19, offering a rare opportunity to experience Bellville’s agricultural and cultural roots firsthand. Titled “Explore the Land, Learn Its Stories, and Catch the Sunset,” the event invites the community to step back in time and explore local heritage and catch the sunset on a scenic and historic property just north of town.

Frank and Vickie Monk, Historical Society members, will graciously open their land to guests for an engaging evening of storytelling and exploration. Visitors will learn about the little-known yet historically significant role of gamagrass—a native prairie plant that once played a vital role as a cash crop in the region’s agricultural development.

In addition to the historical insights, attendees can enjoy a guided walking tour, and—weather permitting—a hayride through the pasture. The tour concludes at a charming barn equipped with tables and chairs, offering a peaceful spot to relax and take in the countryside. As the evening winds down, guests will gather to watch the sunset over the hill, soaking in the beauty of the land and the stories it holds. This informal gathering is free and open to the public. Come as you are and feel free to bring a friend. Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just looking for a relaxing way to spend a spring evening, this event promises a little something for everyone.
