The Austin County Fair is just around the corner, and this year promises to be filled with exhilarating events and new experiences. Kim Quinney, representative from the Austin County Fair, stopped by our studio and shared some important updates and announcements with us. Let’s dive into the four major changes that will make this year’s fair an unforgettable experience for the entire community.

Firstly, one noticeable change will be seen in the parade route. As tradition dictates, the parade will commence at the Austin County Courthouse in downtown Bellville. However, instead of crossing over the railroad tracks and continuing towards the fairgrounds, there’s a new route in place. The parade will now take a right turn and head south down Hwy 36, passing through the heart of the town. Traffic will be halted well in advance, allowing the parade to make its way down the middle of Hwy 36 all the way to Austin County State Bank. From there, the parade will make a right turn and proceed into the neighborhoods. Organizations participating in the parade will need to coordinate with their riders regarding the pickup location in the neighborhoods.

The second major change that will catch the attention of many fairgoers is the extension of the country auction. This year, it will be transformed into the Youth Supreme and Country Auction, giving exhibitors in the youth, home economics, and ag mechanics departments an incredible opportunity. Grand champions and reserve champions of their respective classes will now have the choice to sell their projects at the auction. This new addition ensures that the hard work and dedication put into these projects by the youth are properly recognized and rewarded, similar to the livestock exhibitors who have had this opportunity in the past.

Furthermore, the highly sought-after passports for fun will be available for purchase. These passports offer great value as they provide access to various carnival rides. Starting from July 21st, the passports will be sold exclusively through the Austin County Fair offices. Unlike previous years, the queens will not be selling them, so be sure to get your hands on them before they’re sold out. In addition to the passports, the Fair Office will also handle the sale of season passes, ensuring fairgoers have ample opportunities to enjoy all the attractions.

Lastly, the home economics committee has implemented significant changes in the forms used for home economics projects. Last year’s forms will not be accepted, so participants are encouraged to dispose of them. Those interested in submitting projects this year should visit the fair office to obtain the new forms and begin their preparations. For further information, individuals can visit the Austin County Fair website at www.AustinCountyFair.com. Updates and announcements will also be shared on the fair’s Facebook pages, namely the Austin County Fair Facebook page and the Austin County Expo and Convention Center Facebook page.

Apart from these changes, one highly anticipated event is the shrimp boil taking place on Friday, July 21st, at the Expo Center. The event promises all-you-can-eat shrimp, along with delicious sides such as potatoes and corn, and refreshing draft beer. Tables for the shrimp boil, which accommodate eight people, are available for purchase at $400 each. It’s essential to pre-order tickets as they will not be sold at the door. Contact the Fair Office to secure your table and enjoy this delectable feast with friends, family, or colleagues.

With record-breaking exhibit numbers and an incredible entertainment lineup, this year’s Austin County Fair is expected to be the best one yet. The entertainment group set to perform will be revealed during the shrimp boil event, so make sure to be there to catch the exclusive announcement.

The anticipation for the fair is palpable, and the organizers cannot wait to welcome everyone back to the fairgrounds. The fair is a culmination of year-long efforts, and it’s a joyous occasion for the entire community. Mark your calendars, invite your loved ones, and join us for an unforgettable experience at the Austin County Fair.
