Early voting for the upcoming election has begun. Starting on Monday, April 24, 2023, through Friday, April 28, 2023, the polling station at the Austin County Annex, Room #4, located at 800 East Wendt Street, Bellville, Texas 77418, will be open from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Early voting will also take place on Monday, May 1, 2023, and Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at the same location and time.

Election day is on Saturday, May 6, 2023, and there are two important items to vote for:

The first item is the Bellville Independent School District Bond. The district wants to borrow $49.5 million by issuing school building bonds to pay for the construction, repair, renovation, expansion, and equipment of various school buildings. The improvements include building a new junior high school, repairing West End Elementary, O’Bryant Primary School, and Bellville High School, changing Bellville Junior High School into an intermediate school, and converting the old O’Bryant Intermediate School site into parking for O’Bryant Primary School and other district facilities. To pay back the bonds plus interest and credit agreement costs, the district will need to raise property taxes by 15%.

The second item on the ballot is Proposition 1, which is about taxes in Austin County Emergency Services District No. 1. The proposition asks whether the district should be allowed to charge up to six cents for every $100 of property value.

We encourage all affected residents to come out and vote. It is essential to participate in local elections to ensure that our voices are heard, and our community’s interests are represented. Your vote counts, and every vote matters. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to have a say in the future of your community.
