The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has unanimously named Dr. Susan Ballabina as the sole finalist to become the next president of Texas A&M University, positioning her to lead one of the state’s flagship institutions into its next chapter.

Dr. Ballabina currently serves as Executive Vice Chancellor for the Texas A&M University System, where she oversees operations across the system, supports strategic initiatives, and works closely with leadership at universities and agencies throughout Texas. Her selection follows a national search that drew a strong pool of candidates, with Ballabina emerging as the top choice based on her experience, leadership, and long-standing connection to the A&M System.

With more than 30 years of service, Dr. Ballabina brings a deep understanding of the university and its mission. Over the course of her career, she has held several key leadership roles, including Chief of Staff to the university president, Senior Vice President for Academic and Strategic Collaborations, and Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chief Operating Officer for Texas A&M AgriLife.

Her work has included leading major initiatives such as Healthy Texas, developing partnerships like the Aplin Center, and coordinating statewide disaster recovery efforts following Hurricane Harvey through the Governor’s Commission to Rebuild Texas. These efforts reflect a continued focus on service, collaboration, and strengthening communities across the state.

If officially appointed, Dr. Ballabina would become the 28th president of Texas A&M University at a time when the institution is marking its 150th anniversary. Her leadership is expected to focus on continued growth, accountability, and preparing the university for future success.

Dr. Ballabina expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting her long history with the university and its impact on students and communities across Texas. She emphasized her commitment to building on existing progress and guiding the institution forward.

As part of the selection process, Dr. Ballabina had initially served on the presidential search committee but formally stepped aside before applying for the position. She was considered alongside other candidates through the same evaluation process.

The appointment is subject to a required 21-day waiting period before the Board of Regents can take final action.

Dr. Ballabina holds a bachelor’s degree from Tarleton State University, a master’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, and a doctorate in public affairs from The University of Texas at Dallas. She has received multiple honors throughout her career, including recognition as a Regents Fellow, four Superior Service Awards from AgriLife Extension, and designation as a Distinguished Alumna from Tarleton State University’s College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
