Many people despise shaving and, why wouldn’t they? Razor burn, bumps, nicks, cuts, and ingrown hairs are just some of the problems related to shaving. Well, if the people at Skarp Technologies have anything to say about it, those problems will be a thing of the past! They have teamed up with Kickstarter to try to get crowdfunding for the idea of a laser razor. That’s right, a razor that utilizes a laser to literally melt the hair off of the skin. Sounds dangerous? Not really.
How It Works
According to their Kickstarter page, wavelengths of light had already been discovered that could cut through dark hair, but finding a way to cut light and gray hair was proving incredibly difficult. After years of research & development, they discovered a chromophore in the hair that would be cut when hit with a particular light wavelength. Chromophores are particles that absorb certain wavelengths (colors) of light. This chromophore they identified is shared by every human, regardless of age, gender or race. And, because the laser doesn’t actually burn the hair, it doesn’t produce a burnt hair smell.
So far their Kickstarter Campaign has been a huge success. They originally started with the goal of $160,000 but, they attained that figure within 48 hours of their Kickstarter campaign’s launch. As of this writing, they are currently at $889,356 in pledges with 20 days still to go for their campaign. They have a video that you can watch on their Kickstarter page (or below) that explains the technology and goals in detail.
