Most of us are familiar with the small drones that you control with a hand held remote. These drones range in size from very small to some even being quite large. But, on Wednesday, Chinese drone maker Ehang Inc. introduced the first human size drone capable of carrying a person. The electric-powered drone can be fully charged in two hours, carry up to 220 pounds and fly for 23 minutes at sea level, according to Ehang. The cabin fits one person and a small backpack and even has air conditioning and a reading light. With propellers folded up, it’s designed to fit in a single parking spot.
Once a flight plan has been entered into the drone’s memory the occupant needs only give one of two commands: “Take Off” and “Land”. With an estimated price tag of $200,000 – $300,000, it’s doubtful that we will being seeing these in the air anytime soon. But, it is interesting to see where the technology is headed. Who knows, maybe one day in the near future this might be a viable option for the average consumer.
