Local students in Austin County recently showcased their artistic talents while promoting civic engagement in the “I Voted” and “Future Voter” sticker design contest. Organized by Kim Rinn, Tax Assessor-Collector and Election Official, this initiative drew over 250 participants from kindergarten to twelfth grade. The winners’ designs will soon feature on stickers distributed during the 2024 Election Season, symbolizing the county’s commitment to fostering civic values in its younger generation.

On September 20, 2023, the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, as part of the Westside Narcotics Task Force, conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 10, leading to the arrest of Juan Orozco, 24, from Houston, Texas, and the seizure of 43 grams of Fentanyl-laced pills.

In a recent operation on Interstate 10, the Westside Narcotics Task Force apprehended Cody Greer, a New Mexico resident, during a routine traffic stop. Greer now faces multiple charges, including manufacturing and delivering controlled substances, possession of illicit narcotics, and unlawful possession of a firearm, highlighting the severity of the alleged offenses and potential for significant penalties upon conviction.
