The Buccaneers earned a 20-1, five-inning victory in game one before the Rangers prevailed 6-2 in game two.
Blinn is now 9-22 overall.
The story in game one was the hot bat of Buccaneer sophomore Keely Castillo, who went 5-for-5 with a double and two-run home run to go along with six RBIs and three runs.
Castillo now has a seven-game hitting streak, going 12-for-23 during that stretch (.522).
Kayla Wallace had a double as part of a four-hit game, driving in two runs with two runs scored in the process. Chandler Talbot and Teagan Whitley both had three hits, scored three times, and drove in a pair of runs. Talbot tripled.
Emily Kristynik had two hits, including a three-run homer. Madeline Stephenson drove in three runs on two hits with three runs scored.
All nine hitters in the Blinn lineup had at least one hit and scored at least once; seven different Bucs finished with one or more RBIs.
Blinn never trailed, scoring five runs in the first inning, one in the second, four in the third, six in the fourth, and four more in the fifth.
Kilgore’s run came in the bottom of the third frame.
The Bucs out-hit the Rangers 22-5.
Earning the victory in the pitcher’s circle was Chloee Mason, who tossed a complete game. Across five innings, she allowed an unearned run with seven strikeouts and one walk.
Game two proved to be a different story for Blinn as Kilgore managed to cool the Bucs’ hot bats for seven innings.
The Rangers posted a four-spot in the home half of the second inning before Blinn scored all its offense in the top of the fourth.
After Wallace scored on a wild pitch, Caitlyn Stevens smacked a solo homer to right field to pull the Bucs within 4-2.
Kilgore posted a couple of insurance runs with single tallies in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings.
Kailey Eldridge took the loss for Blinn despite allowing no earned runs (five unearned) on four hits and two walks.
“You want to scratch your head to figure out today’s results,” Buccaneers head coach Rick Church said. “All you can do now is focus on Galveston on Wednesday.”
Blinn hosts Galveston College for a Region XIV doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Hohlt Park in Brenham.
Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 42 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
