BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball used easily its best offensive game of the season to pull out an 80-55 victory over McLennan Community College Wednesday night inside the P.E. Building.
“We hit shots and when you hit shots it makes your offense look good,” said Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins. “Our team is very unselfish right now.”
Ebony Parker was a big reason that the Buccaneers improved to 4-1 as she hit nine 3-pointers to end the game with a season-high 32 points.
“Once we saw they were coming out in a zone then my teammates were able to get me the ball early on,” Parker said after the game. “I just tried to shoot them out of the zone to give my teammates a better opportunity to score.”
Ekiya Gray also had it going later in the game and scored 18 while Bryanna Taylor hit a couple of shots from behind the arc to score 11.
Parker was a one-woman show in the first quarter as Blinn scored 17 points in the first 10 minutes and all of those points belonged to Parker. McLennan hung around in the first but Parker took advantage of a zone defense to give the Buccaneers the 17-11 lead after one.
Gray got going in the second quarter by scoring nine points while Taylor chipped in five as Blinn extended its lead to 38-29 at the half.
The first part of the third quarter was all Blinn early on as a layup from Penina Faumui gave the Buccaneers a 53-34 lead with 3:57 left. McLennan did battle back to get within 12 before the start of the fourth.
Defense led the way for Blinn in the fourth by only allowing McLennan eight points in the final 10 minutes. Ashley Ford had a solid fourth quarter with six points as Blinn cruised to the 25-point victory.
Blinn will end a five-game home stand on Tuesday, Nov. 17 when it hosts Weatherford College at 5:30 p.m.
