PASADENA, Texas – Blinn College volleyball played great defense but couldn’t take advantage of its opportunities in a 3-1 loss to No. 16 San Jacinto College-Central Tuesday night.

San Jacinto won by the score 25-12, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-14. With the loss, Blinn’s overall record falls to 17-17 and 6-3 in Region XIV play.

The Buccaneers played a solid defensive match with three players in double-digit digs. Alexis Kingston led with 17 digs and added nine kills. MeKayla Gurley and Danusia Sipa Borgeaud each had 15 digs while Britny Mitchell earned nine kills. Ally Lanik earned 31 assists and nine digs.

“We earned a lot of digs on defense,” said Kalie Mader, Blinn head coach. “We passed the ball well but just didn’t execute.”

Blinn opened up the match with a rough set and lost 25-12. Momentum started to shift in Blinn’s favor as the second set was much better as the Buccaneers only lost by two at 25-23.

Facing a sweep, Blinn was able to recover and claim the third set 25-21 to force a fourth set. San Jacinto stole back the momentum to claim the match with a 25-14 victory in the fourth.

Blinn will host its final conference home match on Thursday, Oct. 20 against Lee College at 6 p.m.
