Kilgore, Texas — The Blinn College men’s basketball team (2-0, 2-0) is off to a perfect start after defeating conference opponent Kilgore College, 58-56, Saturday on the road.
“The guys we so tough, in tune and together, and fought through adversity,” head coach Scott Schumacher said. “It was a tremendous win on the road, and I couldn’t be prouder of them. Everybody gets two chocolate chip cookies with their meal tonight.”
With the win, Blinn is now 2-0 in overall and conference play.
Three Buccaneers scored double-digit points in the victory. Calvin Carpenter led the offense with 16 points, Davion Coleman followed with 11, and Bonke Maring scored 10.
On defense, Sanmi Fajana led the Buccaneers with seven rebounds and two blocks. Maring was next with six rebounds and Carpenter had five.
Blinn came out strong and built a 33-25 lead at the halfway mark. In the second half, Kilgore narrowed in on the Buccaneers to make it an even game. Carpenter hit a 2-pointer with 1:20 left for the Buccaneers to pull ahead by four and keep the lead for good. Kilgore sunk a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but it wasn’t enough as Blinn claimed its second victory of the season.
Next, the Buccaneers will return home to take on conference opponent Coastal Bend College on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Kruse Center.
