BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College volleyball was unable to close out any of the three sets and Trinity Valley Community College took advantage for a 3-0 victory by the score 26-24, 25-15 and 25-23 inside the P.E. Building.
With the loss, Blinn’s overall record falls to 17-20 and the Region XIV record stays at 6-4.
Alexis Kingston led the Buccaneers with 10 kills and digs with 12. Kayla Valigura added six kills and five blocks. MeKayla Gurley added 11 digs while Ally Lanik dished out 23 assists.
The first set started out pretty even as Trinity Valley jumped out to a 10-7 lead. Trinity Valley’s lead bumped up to 16-11 but then Blinn got on a roll. The Buccaneers scored seven of the next nine points to tie the set at 18-18 after a kill from Britny Mitchell. Blinn was able to tie the match at 24-24 but never took the lead as Trinity Valley took the next two points for a 26-24 victory in the first.
The second set didn’t start out bad as the Buccaneers took a slim 5-4 lead but Trinity Valley grabbed momentum to take a 19-10 lead. Blinn and Trinity Valley essentially traded points the rest of the way as Trinity Valley took a 2-0 lead in sets with a 25-15 victory.
Fighting for its life, Blinn shot out to a 10-7 lead after a kill from Lanik. Trinity Valley came back to even up the set at 19-19 as both teams traded points back and forth. Blinn held a slim 23-22 lead but it would be the final point scored for the Buccaneers as Trinity Valley scored three straight to close out the match with a 25-23 victory.
Blinn will open up the Region XIV tournament at Lee College in Baytown on Friday, Nov. 4 against Trinity Valley at 11 a.m.
